April showers bring May flowers ...and persistent promotion of the Rotary District Conference! This year, it’s a Rotary Weekend Getaway to the elegant, yet Oklahoma-casual Artesian Hotel in Sulphur, Oklahoma on May 3-4 and you and your family are invited!

Up until a few years ago, I didn’t fully understand why the District Governor each year would push so much for Rotarians to attend the Rotary District Conference. Actually I’m pretty sure I attended Rotary District Conferences with my mom before I even joined Rotary myself. It’d always kick off on Thursday evening at the Burgers’ lovely home with a festive party and cookout. Ah, those were the days... Back in my late teens, I didn’t realize Rotary’s network of nearly 2,000 Rotarians in one district linked with over 500 other districts comprising of 35,000 Rotary clubs and 1.2 million Rotarians... wow!

Rotary District Conferences are held across the world “to inspire and motivate Rotarians, celebrate the achievements of the past Rotary year, and build confidence to achieve the goals for the upcoming year.” That is literally in the Rotary District Governor Manual in Chapter 3. My mind goes directly to the fact that Rotary joins leaders to exchange ideas to create lasting change -in our world, in our communities, and in ourselves. And that is why we hold an annual Rotary District Conference. Not because we are told to do so in a manual, but because it’s the prime opportunity to join Rotary leaders from across our district to exchange ideas... You get my drift.

For years, I’ve heard our enthusiastic District Governors exclaim that “it’s free! FREE?!?! You pay nothing!” It sounds too good to be true! In reality, our district decided years ago to prioritize our Rotary District Conference by including it as a line item in our district budget which comes from Rotarian district dues. You can’t put a price on what results from joining Rotarians together from across our district to form networks to create lasting change through foundation opportunities and a broader base of knowledge for changing our communities and more!

Now that I am the District Governor, I get it! Rotary District Conference isn’t free, it’s priceless! I wish to personally invite you and your family to our (priceless) Rotary Weekend Getaway May 3- 4, 2019 at the Artesian Hotel in Sulphur, Oklahoma.

I hope you’ll register yourself, friends, and family to attend! See you there!
