ROTARY HELPING “SANTA” – Christy Baker of Enid RSVP accepts a check for $500 from Rotary Club of Enid President Dan Schiedel. Rotary donated the funds to support the RSVP “Santa for Seniors” program. Baker is executive director of RSVP of Enid and North-Central Oklahoma. RSVP’s mission is to provide a holistic approach to aging. This is achieved through the programs Enid Mobile Meals, Silver Lining Transportation, RSVP Senior Center, handyman services, homebound counseling and a network of 54 associated programs to close the gap between senior citizens’ anxieties and aging.
Tony Weedn was presented as a new member of the Rotary Club of Enid by club President-elect Carrie Sanders on Nov. 29. Weedn is founder and CEO of BaseConnect.com, serving especially the Vance Air Force Base community. Weedn recently left the Air Force after 13 years of service. Weedn explained that, “BaseConnect.com uses our skill set of leadership and vision, combined with technical gifting, to connect our troops and their families to each other, their military installation and the local community in order to save lives, save money and save time for them and the federal government.” Welcome to Rotary, Tony!
FOR TOP TEACHERS – Enid Rotary Club presented a $2,500 check to the Enid Public School Foundation as a sponsorship of the Teacher of the Year recognition in the Enid school district. Receiving the ceremonial check are Enid Superintendent of Schools Darrell Floyd, left, and Taylor Venus, right, president of the school foundation. Rotary Club of Enid President Dan Schiedel presented the ceremonial check (and the actual, cashable check!) to Floyd and Venus, who also are Enid Rotarians.

SUPPORTING YFS – Tree Kelley of Youth & Family Services of North-Central Oklahoma accepts a $300 check from Rotary Club of Enid President Dan Schiedel. Rotary donated the funds in support of the YFS annual fund-raiser, Nights of Shelter. Tree is development director and interim executive director of Enid-based YFS, which operates an emergency youth shelter and a transitional living program. The mission of YFS is to value, support and care for individuals and families to build a stronger community.
