Each month in cooperation with the Mayor’s office and City Council, the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City has the opportunity and pleasure of recognizing an outstanding teacher in our community.

Dana Chambers, Physical Education teacher at Quail Creek Elementary, has been named Teacher of the Month by the Foundation for Okla. City Public Schools.

Dana has been with Okla. City Public Schools for 17 years and has been instrumental in leading and planning wellness and fitness challenges. She worked on a $1.5 million grant to receive the Carl M. White PEP  grant providing Physical Education, learning labs and professional development for the OKCPS, and in one community worked to develop and became director for a Summer program for Okla. City Parks and Recreation.

Dana was selected as Teacher of the Year for Newcastle Public Schools and Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education Recreation and Dance, and has achieved numerous other awards and certifications.

Dana believes one of her greatest accomplishments and best professional development in her teaching career is receiving national board certification in 2004.  Some of her favorite volunteer work has been during after school and summer programs.

Dana says an important trait for an outstanding teacher is continuing to build knowledge and resources through professional development, which has allowed her to keep lessons fun and fresh for all her students. Dana has also been involved with several youth organizations including Strong and Healthy Oklahoma, Fit Kids Coalition and she served as chair of Action for Healthy Kids Oklahoma.
