Bricktown Rotary Oklahoma River Clean Up #riversportokc river-protectors May 20th  www.riversportokc.org #keepoklahomabeautiful #bricktownrotary

Thanks, Rotarians, for helping to Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Together we collected 13 bags of trash and a couple of random larger items ie car parts, plastic buckets, plastic piping's.

The Bricktown Rotarians were fortunate to have fellow Rotarian Jeanette Nance with Keep Oklahoma Beautiful be one of our Guest Speakers on April 26, 2021 and Brent Allen-Riversport OKC River Protectors speak on April 12th, 2021 about the overwhelming problems with trash and debris that blow into our State and our Oklahoma River.

Jeanette Nance's Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Mission, "Our mission is simple. We empower Oklahoma citizens to preserve and enhance the state's natural beauty and ensure a healthy, sustainable environment."

Brian Allen shared with us his efforts in protecting the OKC River. Their plan: "We must all protect the natural resources we enjoy outdoors. Ready to join us?  RIVERSPORT has a passion for outdoor river adventures, recreation and sport. Now, we’re launching a new initiative to share our passion for keeping our rivers in their natural state – free of litter and trash. RIVERSPORT River Protectors is a way to bring our community together as good stewards of our Oklahoma rivers and waterways. The North Canadian River travels from Colorado through New Mexico into the Texas Panhandle and on to what eventually becomes the Oklahoma River. Everything thrown away upstream eventually makes it to the Oklahoma River. RIVERSPORT River Protectors focuses on removing trash as it arrives, but more importantly, identifying and working to bring about the cultural shift that will eliminate the problem."

As Rotarians we always want to give back.  It was sad to see the riverside loaded with plastic bottles and trash, but we did our small part.

Thank you, Jeanette, and Brian, for being an inspiration for us to get started and to stay motivated. Big things can happen with small beginnings.

The Bricktown Rotarians will be back!
