MEMBERSHIP NOTES MAY 2023
After traveling over 950 miles, visiting 22 out of 31 clubs (Chandler, Cushing, Geary/Hinton,
Kingfisher, North OKC, Pawhuska, Stillwater Frontier, West OKC, and Woodward I have not
forgotten about you!) and talking with countless club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Presidents
elects, membership chairs, and Rotarians in general the same challenges consistently stand head and shoulders above all other challenges:
Kingfisher, North OKC, Pawhuska, Stillwater Frontier, West OKC, and Woodward I have not
forgotten about you!) and talking with countless club Presidents, Vice Presidents, Presidents
elects, membership chairs, and Rotarians in general the same challenges consistently stand head and shoulders above all other challenges:
1. Growing and attracting new members;
2. Plugging in and engaging our new members, and
3. Getting younger.
Fortunately for us, we do not have to recreate the wheel to develop strategies to address these challenges because Rotary International through my.rotary.org has already developed templates and brochures to assist us. Most of our clubs have some type of active membership program to include recruiting, engaging new members, and assigning new members a mentor. These clubs are plus membership growth or, at the least, neutral attrition vs attraction rate. However, our clubs that could use some assistance from the District do not have a proactive membership chair and/or a proactive membership program. These are the clubs that we will concentrate our attention and resources on to help them develop and maintain a proactive membership program. Within the next couple of weeks look for a one-stop membership button/tab that will centralize all the membership references and templates for easier access.
As of May 2023, our District membership has declined from 1712 members to 1690 members, a net decline of 31 members….which equates to every club losing one member. There are some negative consequences for our District if we drop below 1200 members. The good news is that we will not let this happen. Several clubs have new members actively engaged in their club’s activities; however, they are not reflected in the current report. Soon, we will take a deeper dive into the reporting of new members and the interdependent relationship between the ClubRunner and RI databases, and how club administrators can help us keep accurate membership numbers. Our new challenge and action plan will be to add 50 new club members, beginning 1 June 2023-1 July 2024. Stand by for details.
Our next Zone 31 Membership Zoom meeting will be 27 June 2023, 6:00 PM CST. It occurs the
4th Tuesday of every month at the same time. It is for all District membership teams and District leadership. Meeting ID=841090819: Passcode=138318
Save the date: Feel The Beat In The Heart Of Memphis, Zone 30/31 Zone Conference, 21-24
Sep. Standby for registration details.
