The Rotary Club of Edmond is in full-giving mode as we approach the holiday season. As our coldest months approach, people turn to space heaters and other ways to keep warm so the risk of fires increase.On October 10, Rotary Club of Edmond member and local Farmers agent hosted a fundraiser golf tournament at Rose Creek Golf Club. Net proceeds were used to purchase 100 smoke detectors that were donated to the Edmond Fire Department. These detectors have a ten-year life and will be installed free of charge to Edmond residents.
On October 22, Edmond Rotary Club members joined Edmond Firefighters to install smoke alarms in the Ida Freeman Elementary School neighborhood. In addition to the new alarms, the volunteers tested existing alarms and refreshed batteries as needed.
Edmond Rotarians also are helping to fight hunger by providing a full Thanksgiving dinner for families. “Fill the Thanksgiving Basket” is a project funded by the Edmond Rotary Club benefiting children at Summit Elementary School. Each year the club provides bags filled with grocery items necessary to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for a family of four. In addition, the club purchases gift cards in order for each family to purchase a turkey or ham or whatever they wish. This year we are requesting more cash donations in order to purchase more gift cards than grocery bags so that we may give each family more options for the type of meal they would prefer. The gift cards will be valued at approximately $45.00 depending on the cash funds available.
On November 18th, Rotarians will deliver all items to the school. The Thanksgiving basket drive is an excellent way to benefit the children at Summit Elementary School and the Edmond Rotary Club is proud to be its sponsor every year.
