In cooperation with the Mayor's office and City Council, the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City recognizes an outstanding teacher in our community each month. The teacher is gifted a prize of $500 from the Rotary Club 29 Foundation and a $500 gift from The Inasmuch Foundation in partnership with Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation.

Teacher of the Month - March 2023
Keri Thompson has taught Kindergarten at Bryant Elementary School since 2016, serves on the Bryant Elementary Safe School Committee, and has led students and colleagues in participating in the Outdoor Classroom.

Keri received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Mid America University and has been recognized for her efforts at providing quality education to her students by being awarded grants to fund instructional resources and experiences from Lowe’s Toolbox for Education, OK Ag in the Classroom, the Moore Public Schools Foundation and Donors Choose.

Keri models a life of being a life-long learner as she routinely evaluates her teaching methods, challenges her ways of thinking, engages in meaningful and collaborative conversations with colleagues, and intentionally seeks out and reflects on the points of view of those from other cultural backgrounds and perspectives.

She believes that her greatest contribution to education centers around her commitment to showing up every day for her students and providing them with unconditional love, providing them a sense of consistency and stability, and helping to build self-confidence and independence as they learn to show love toward others.

In addition to the March Teacher of the Month, Keri has been named Teacher of the Year for the 2022-2023 school year by Bryant Elementary School and is a Top Five Finalist for District Teacher of the Year for the 2022-2023 school year by Moore Public Schools.

Keri was presented with a certificate of recognition as well as a $500 gift from the Rotary Club 29 Foundation AND a $500 gift from the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation in partnership with The Inasmuch Foundation.

Congratulations, Keri!
Teacher of the Month - April 2023

Kim King has been a Special Education Teacher since 1997, serving Pre K-5th grade students with specials need at the same elementary school, formerly Western Village and currently Stanley Hupfeld Academy, for the past 26 years.
Kim has been recognized for her teaching skills working with some of Oklahoma City’s most challenged students and she has served as a resource and advocate for students throughout the years.  She has continued to seek specialized training and certifications to assist her with meeting the needs of her students.

Kim’s teaching style is based on the integration of the arts where students engage in the learning process through the use of movement, art, poetry, and expression in a non‑traditional learning environment to help them retain and recall information. This teaching style has allowed her students to consistently meet the goals of their individualized education plans.

She has impacted the community of Western Village as she has been a parent, PTA member, teacher and a founding contributor to the first Elementary Charter School in Oklahoma City when Western Village Elementary converted to a public charter school.
Her impact on the community is long-lasting as she has built relationships and laid foundations for many students to become productive contributors to society. Kim’s passion is to see the academic and social growth of her students—this is the best reward or gift a person can receive.

Kim has 3 beautiful grandchildren and has lent her teaching skills to both Sunday school and vacation bible school at Prospect Baptist Church, where she has been a long-time member.
Kim was presented with a certificate of recognition as well as a $500 gift from the Rotary Club 29 Foundation AND a $500 gift from the Oklahoma City Public Schools Foundation in partnership with The Inasmuch Foundation.
Congratulations, Kim!
