We’re trying to stay on track with a service opportunity every month…but it’s been a challenge. In July, a limited number served snow cones to clients at Dale Rogers Training Center.

On August 26th, two of our Foundation Committee members Bill Boetgger and Jonna Herbert had the privilege of honoring one of our members, Jeff Schulhoff with his Major Donor crystal and Major Donor lapel pin.

Our September Service Above Self project was at Feed the Children. We Pictured below are the volunteers who packed 162 Food Boxes in 2 ½ hours that headed to south Texas for hurricane relief the following weekend.

The man in the front of the below pic, Kevin Richardson, President Elect 2020-21 has been working on a global project to build a WASH facility in Sula San Pedro, Honduras. The virus slowed things down, but all the monies have been raised, and the paperwork is on track. We’re waiting for final approval.

On September 30th Jeanean Yanish, Assistant District Governor (District 5750) visited the West Oklahoma City Rotary Club and gave a great presentation on developing a vibrant club. She shared a lot of great ideas, but as President, I was threatened not to endorse any more ideas or they’d tie me up and put me in an obscure closet somewhere! But, my wheels are turning and I’m the one with the gavel for a few more months!

Our October Service Above Self projects more than make up for lost time earlier in the Rotary year. The first; the Stockyards Steak Cookoff October 17th, 8:30-4:30. We’ll be serving both the cookoff and Stockyards Main Street who will be hosting a number of fun concurrent, events. We invite all Rotarians to join us for a time of fun, service, and eating yummy steak! For more details contact Kelli Payne at kpaynebeef@gmail.com

Our other Service Above Project will be at one of regular projects to support: The Dale Rogers Training Center. We get to serve their clients October 23rd by passing out food as DRTC clients do a drive-by. Billy McDaniel, our 2019 Hall of Fame inductee, who happens to be their most popular DJ will entertain them with their favorite music. There will be some dancin’ goin’ on the car for sure!

In November (date TBD), we’ll be hosting a blood drive at Cattlemen’s. We need at least 13 members willing to give blood, check. They should give blood after eating a good meal, check. And this is an event that can be open to the public, so we’ll be inviting all the neighboring business’.  Julie Gimmel from OBI told members in her presentation of the blood bank that a one time 30-40 minutes effort of giving blood can save the lives of 3 people. This definitely fits with Rotarian. We encourage all Rotarians to go to https://obi.org/donor-express to use OBI’s time-saving app DonorEXPRESS and complete a pre-donation health questionnaire before making an appointment. We learned one of our members gives blood platelets every two weeks at the OBI facility in Edmond. A sacrifice of time is required; 2 -2 ½ hours; but isn’t that what being a Rotarian is all about?
