District Youth Protection Training District & Club Members in Youth-Facing Roles

Every young person who participates in a Rotary program deserves to be safe, respected, and protected. As Rotarians, we carry a profound responsibility to uphold that trust. Youth Protection is not only a Rotary International priority, but also a moral obligation that strengthens our clubs, our communities, and the reputation of Rotary itself.

This training will equip you with the knowledge and tools to recognize risks, prevent harm, and ensure that every youth-focused activity meets the highest standards of safety. By attending, you help safeguard the future of Rotary’s service to young people while also fulfilling the District’s mandatory requirements for working with youth.

Key topics you’ll learn and practice:

• Recognizing, preventing, and responding to abuse/harassment; immediate safeguards; and Rotary’s zero-tolerance stance.

• Reporting requirements and timelines (including Rotary’s requirement to report allegations to RI within 72 hours), documentation, and coordination with law enforcement.

• Appropriate vs. inappropriate interactions; two-adult/“two-deep” practices; transportation, overnight and travel scenarios; medical releases and emergency/crisis planning.

• Electronic and social-media safety, photography/communication guidelines, and safeguarding during virtual or hybrid events.

• Program-specific expectations for Interact, Youth Exchange, RYLA, and other youth initiatives, including screening (applications, background and reference checks) and required trainings.

Who should attend: Club presidents and officers, Youth Service chairs, Interact/RYLA/Youth Exchange leads and counselors, event/day-of volunteers, and any Rotarian who may have contact with youth at Rotary-sponsored activities. District Leadership will conduct the training.

We look forward to equipping every club with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to provide a safe, welcoming environment for all youth in Rotary programs.
