Rotary works towards creating peace in many ways: encouraging service to community, building bonds across professions and cultures, and supporting humanitarian actions to address underlying sources of conflict such as poverty and unmeet health and education needs.District 5750 has recommended four applicants for this year’s Rotary Peace Fellowship, Rotary’s most unique peace program. This highly competitive program provides up to 130 fully-funded fellowships at one of seven Rotary Peace Centers around the globe.
This year’s applicants are pursuing peace in many ways from bringing together Somalia’s diverse clans to engage in community-building projects, to creating more equitable national tax policies in Mongolia, to establishing youth networks in Afghanistan.
Each applicant brings a unique perspective to peace-building based on their local experience. Collectively, they challenge us to see new ways of creating the conditions of peace in our own communities.
While Rotary International will announce the fellowship finalists in November, our District has already benefited from meeting these inspiring applicants.
