‘How can we find an international Rotary project to support?’:
Three quick answers
‘How can we find an international Rotary project to support?’ This is often the first question a Rotary
club will ask when they start to explore international service projects. With 1.4 million members and
46,000 Rotary clubs around the world, there are many great opportunities to fit any club’s interests.
Here are ideas for any club to consider, especially if your club is new to international projects. Each has a track record, offers ways to develop long term relationships between partner clubs, and provides the
extra accountability and potential matching funds of a Rotary Global Grant.
1. Automotive Training Center Expansion, Piura, Peru: This Global Grant will expand a vocational
school’s facilities to train automotive mechanics in an area with very high youth unemployment.
Mary Jane Calvey, Rotary Club of Oklahoma City, is leading the project development and ready
to get your club involved! Mary Jane can be reached at mjcalvey@rwmsinc.com.
2. Heart 2 Heart, Mexico: This collaborative partnership led by our Rotary Zone connects Rotary
clubs in the US and Mexico to complete several Global Grants each year. With a nearly 10-year
track record, the initiative provides vetted project options and makes the process easy for your
club. Check it out at https://rizones30-31.org/news/heart-2-heart/
3. Guatemala Literacy Project: More than 800 Rotary clubs have worked together over the past 25
years to improve education in Guatemala through this unique initiative. Each year, a Global
Grant is developed to support a specific project – this year’s focus is on Indigenous communities
in the Western Highlands which have some of the lowest literacy rates in the Western
Hemisphere. More info at www.guatemalaliteracy.org.
International projects may seem confusing and scary at first, but each of these projects provide a great
way to get started. Before long, all 46,000 Rotary clubs will feel like your next door neighbors!
