This month is vocational service month at Rotary. There are many great ideas from other clubs and districts across the world, so I thought I would share a few of them that I found here.
Present a vocational award to someone in the community who has exemplified outstanding professional achievement and high ethical standards. Promote the presentation in the community.
Help young people prepare for their careers by sponsoring a character-building project, virtual career day, or virtual mentorship program.
Support professional development in the community by sponsoring a professional networking event or workshop, or start a career counseling program to help unemployed or underemployed adults compete in the job market.
Have club members volunteer their vocational skills on a community or international service project.
I hope these ideas give you some inspiration and thoughts on serving our community in January and throughout the year.
As I wrap up, I want to continue virtual club visits for the remainder of the Rotary year, and I will be reaching out to the clubs that I have not been able to meet with yet. I look forward to my visit with Midtown and Midwest City in the coming weeks.
Thanks,
Angela Rickman

Help Support District 5750 Global Grants!
The District 5750 International Service Committee is working to develop several Global Grant Projects and is looking for additional clubs to join, and support, the grants.
Additionally, reach out to Mary Jane Calvey or Larry Stone for an upcoming program and learn more about International Service!
OKC Sunrise Rotary is having a unique fundraiser. We are offering personalized Rotary car key chains to members of all the clubs in District 5750. These genuine leather key chains are hand crafted from scratch by one of our members, Bob Frakes. Club President, Larry Hopper, says these are a great way to show Rotary Spirit and to keep track of important household keys too.
The Rotary Club of Oklahoma City announced a series of holiday contributions with a combined impact of $160,000 for the holidays.
These contributions were made possible by the savings accrued from reduced meeting attendance due to the pandemic and the shift to a virtual format temporarily. Former Governor David Walters and CEO of Walters Power International, 2020-2021 President of Rotary Club of Oklahoma, said, “As members of this historic Rotary Club we are so fortunate to have this opportunity to help others. Throughout our 111-year history Rotary Club of Oklahoma City members have been generous, but this club has especially risen to the challenge of this pandemic and opened their hearts for those in need.”
Cushing Rotary welcomed two new members during a club business meeting January 14th at the Steer Inn Family Restaurant. Pictured are Geoffrey Beasley with his mentor Dena Floyd, new member Amber Reinecke with her mentor Tyson Branyan, and Matt Turner, President.
For over 2 decades, Stillwater Rotary Club has sponsored a service program for children during the Christmas Holidays. This year, Rotarians purchased and packed 1,800 meals for school children attending Glencoe, Yale, and Ripley Public Schools.
The Bricktown Rotarians were at it again December 2020 sharing a little Christmas Cheer to the Northwinds Living Center. Martha Kramer and Teresa Prince with Northwinds Living Center were able to get us a Christmas List wish for the resident's at Northwinds Living Center for Christmas.
The Bricktown Rotarians pulled together, quickly collected items, wrapped them, and delivered them so they could have a special Christmas. It was a little different this year as we normally join them at their annual Christmas Party and bring music and sing Christmas carols and personally deliver and watch the residents unwrap their gifts.
Weatherford Rotary News featured a story on Club President, Todd Earp.
Weatherford Tours America, a local 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, takes local students and other interested parties on educational tours to the most interesting places in the United States.
Founded in 2017 by Shelley Pond, Dana Hickman and Todd Earp, the organization strives “to promote, organize, fund and operate various education opportunities for the youth and other interested citizens of Weatherford and the surrounding area without any regard, to race, religion or social-economic status,” according to the mission statement.
Teacher of the month, Cody Sivertsen, received his bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Oklahoma City University. Cody has taught social studies at Cooper Middle school since 2016, serves as the department chair, and has served as the head wrestling coach at two middle schools.
